Northern Ireland Fire And Rescue Service
About
Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) provides fire and rescue services across Northern Ireland, covering more than 5,500 square miles and serving 1.9 million people. The service organises activity under four interdependent work streams—Prevention, Protection, Response and Resilience—and responds to fires, road traffic collisions and specialist rescue incidents such as flooding, chemical incidents and collapsed buildings, coordinated from a dedicated Regional Control Centre that answers 999 calls and dispatches appliances. NIFRS is structured into four operational Command Areas, 14 Districts and 68 fire stations. As the enforcing authority for the majority of premises, the service inspects and audits businesses for compliance with The Fire and Rescue Services (Northern Ireland) Order 2006, publishes performance statistics and maintains a public register of legal documents. It provides fire safety guides, legislation advice notes and fire risk assessment guidance to help dutyholders meet their legal obligations. The Learning & Development College near Cookstown is a centre of excellence offering realistic, scenario-based training and facilities available for partner collaboration across the UK and Ireland, supporting organisations seeking training, risk management and compliance assistance.
