British Safety Services (BSS), founded in 1991, is an accredited UK health and safety training and consultancy provider delivering courses and consultancy nationally and internationally. Recognised by major awarding bodies including NEBOSH, CITB and IOSH, BSS offers over 20 accredited courses across five accreditation schemes—NEBOSH, IOSH, ECITB, SPA and CITB—with popular programmes such as the NEBOSH National General Certificate, IOSH Managing Safely and the ECITB Passport to Safety. The organisation operates its head office and main training centre in Birmingham with a registered office in Redditch, and maintains accredited centres and offices overseas, having delivered training in some 56 countries and exporting the NEBOSH NGC to Borneo in 1994. Trainers draw on practical health and safety experience to give locally relevant examples. BSS also provides outsourced health and safety consultancy and issues accredited certificates on successful completion; most certificates are valid for three years while some, including NEBOSH, are described as valid for life. Courses are promoted as suitable for a wide variety of industries, including construction where ECITB qualifications apply.
