Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) is the statutory fire and rescue organisation for Northern Ireland, delivering prevention, protection, response and resilience across communities. The Service measures and monitors risk to ensure effective emergency response to save lives and protect property and the environment. NIFRS delivers community safety programmes including home fire safety advice and offers a free Home Fire Safety Check while providing business fire safety guidance that emphasises compliance with fire safety law to protect employees and customers. Operational activity covers incident response across its area alongside statutory protection work to assess and enforce fire safety obligations. NIFRS engages in community education, partnership projects and funded initiatives—such as cross-border collaborations supported by PEACEPLUS—to enhance resilience and training capacity. Its core functions are framed as Prevention, Protection, Response and Resilience, focusing on risk assessment, safety education and statutory obligations relevant to health, safety and facilities managers. Information on applying for safety checks, staying safe at home and business fire safety guidance is published on the Service’s website.
