First Aid Training — common questions
It depends on your first aid needs assessment. As a guide, lower hazard workplaces with 25 to 50 people need at least one emergency first aider, while higher hazard workplaces need at least one first aider at work for every 25 people.
Emergency First Aid at Work is a one day course. First Aid at Work runs over three days and covers a wider range of injuries and illnesses. Your needs assessment decides which is appropriate.
Three years. HSE strongly recommends annual refresher training in between so that skills stay current.
Since 2013 HSE no longer approves first aid providers, so selecting a competent one is your responsibility. Look for Ofqual regulated qualifications or membership of a recognised trade body.
