Health & Safety Training — common questions

What health and safety training must I provide?

Induction training, job specific training and periodic refreshers. Individual regulations add more, covering topics such as manual handling, working at height, COSHH, asbestos awareness and fire safety.

What is the difference between IOSH and NEBOSH?

IOSH courses such as Working Safely and Managing Safely are short and practical. NEBOSH qualifications such as the General Certificate are longer, formally assessed and aimed at people who hold a safety role.

How often should training be refreshed?

Three years is the common cycle for IOSH Managing Safely and similar courses, and annually for higher risk practical topics. Your risk assessments should set the frequency.

Can training be run in house in Lancashire?

Yes. Most of the providers above will deliver on your own site, which usually works out cheaper per head once you have six or more delegates.
